Fighting for a better future? We need your help.

Creating a more equitable world takes a lot of time and energy, but at Kiva we’re in it for the long haul. 100% of money lent on Kiva goes to funding loans. That means we rely on donations from people like you to make this work possible. For a limited time, if you donate $35 or more, a $25 bonus will be added to your account (you’ll get an email once it’s there).

A loan of $2,850 helped a member to pay school fees for his children.

Rugiatu's Group's story

Salone Microfinance Trust (SMT) is very pleased to present to you this group of teachers from Calaba town, in Freetown, Sierra Leone's capital city. Teachers of this school, like their colleague teachers in all SMT’s operational areas, come to SMT to request loans. These loans are very helpful in helping them solve certain financial constrains that their mere salaries alone cannot let them solve. And at the end of each month, they repay their loans using their monthly salaries. Their school’s bursar is directly responsible for doing the deductions and making the repayments on their behalf.

James is the leader of this group of teachers. James is married with six children. He has served in the teaching profession for many years now. With the help of this loan, James is going to pay school fees for his children.

In this group: Rugiatu , Saidu R., Abdulai O., Santigie M., Matina F. , James S. , Kadiatu S.
