Tomas's story

Tomás is 39 years old. Since he was very young he has worked as a merchant, selling dairy products in his sister's company. It was going well for them there until his sister passed away and he went to the city to live with his brother. From him he learned the trade of electrician and maintenance, which he started to work in. He married and returned to the city of Barranquilla where he now works in a hotel in town as chief of maintenance. Six years ago, in order to increase his family income, he decided to invest his savings in buying foreign brands of shoes that come to him from the neighboring country of Panamá. he sells them to a select group of customers. Tomás' wife is also a very capable entrepreneur who sells clothing and perfume to help the household income. They both work in order to provide for their 14 year old son and give him everything he needs for his wellbeing and for future professional success. At present, Tomás needs working capital to make purchases in larger quantities of shoes such as Addidas, Nike, and Reebok, which he has orders for. He wants to respond quickly and also buy in larger quantities to reduce the sales cost, thus resulting in competitive prices to gain more customers. This way he will increase his sales and little by little make his dream come true of having a vehicle and expanding his business.
