Antonina is a widow and farmer in Kitale where she lives and also has been practicing farming for 28 years and selling her produce of milk, maize, beans, and vegetables to the local market. She has seven adult children.
Antonina has requested a loan of 52,000 KES from Juhudi Kilimo to buy and insure a dairy cow. She hopes to raise more income to meet her family's basic needs and buy two better breeds of dairy cows in five years.
Antonina says seasonal weather changes and lack of farming capital spell the greatest challenge in farming.
To facilitate a partnership between Kiva and Juhudi Kilimo, K-Rep Group (Juhudi Kilimo’s 100% owner) has guaranteed Kiva funds in the event of institutional default. Lenders should be aware that the risk of borrower default remains borne by the lender.
