Adonay is 46 years old, married, and lives with her husband and three children. She hopes with the credit to complete the purchase of some pigs and also pig feed in order to fatten the animals. She already has the space where she will keep the pigs. She wants to have her animals at the ideal weight in order to sell them at the local market and in nearby areas. She wants to generate the greatest amount of income possible for her well-being and that of her family as well as to grow in the project of raising pigs. This is the first loan that she will receive from FUDECOSUR. She has never had any previous loans from state banks, but FUDECOSUR has given her a loan with more ease and with a much lower interest rate.

More information about this loan

FUDECOSUR works in one of the poorest regions of Costa Rica, where microfinance institutions (MFIs) are scarce or have a hard time keeping up with demand for small loans. By providing mostly agricultural loans, FUDECOSUR reaches rural borrowers that many MFIs consider to be too risky. However, this has also made it more difficult for the organization to find stable sources of capital to lend. Kiva's flexible, risk-tolerant capital plays a critical role in helping FUDECOSUR grow its portfolio and support even more borrowers.
