Um is 34 years old and a resident of Baray district of Kompong Tom province. She is married and has been blessed with six children, all of whom are in need of their daily allowances. She helps her husband manage their farming business. They have a fishing business for additional income for the family. Um sells her fresh fish in a local market, earning around USD 2.00 per day.
Um would like to make improvements in her fishing business and better her living conditions. Consequently, she is asking for a loan of KHR 1,800,000 to purchase a boat with a machine for fishing purpose. Through this, Um hopes that she will be able to make a good income and send all of her children to school.
Hattha Kaksekar Limited is one of the largest and most successful microfinance institutions (MFIs) in Cambodia. The organization provides microfinance services to the poor, particularly women, in urban and rural areas. Kiva lenders’ funds will be used to expand the outreach of HKL’s financial services to a greater number of clients in rural areas of Cambodia.
