The "SAN ROQUE" group is a fairly large group which has 12 members. Within this group, María Luisa is the most committed to her business which is making bricks by hand. She learned this trade from her parents and has taken over the family business from them. She says that she currently has two school-age children who are dependent on her and her husband works as a security guard in their town. However, in order to improve their family income, she started improving the craft workshop she had and started running this business which was almost forgotten about. After working for a while, she realized that her income was improving. For this reason, she is requesting a loan to have her brick ovens serviced as they have aged over time. In the photo, María is the lady at the top dressed in a striped sweater.

n.b. In the [individual] photos at the top, we can also see Magaly (wearing a brown top), Virginia (wearing a white jacket) and Julio Cesar (wearing a green sweater).

This is a Group Loan

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.

Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
