Maribel Del Socorro
Maribel’s married and has two children she’s always wanted to provide a good quality of life for. She used to have a business selling chickens that allowed her to contribute with her husband so that their home had more economic opportunities. She had to leave the business aside because they moved and there wasn’t any room in the new place for corrals for the chickens.

During that time their home economic situation became complicated and they went through many difficulties. Now they’ve moved again and in the new place there is enough space to install corrals for the chickens. Maribel hopes to restart her business to generate income to help at home which is why she needs a loan to buy the chicks she needs to restart her chicken sales business. Her greatest dream is to own a house to provide her children and her husband with a stable home and also to have a place in which to better situate her business.

Important Information

This loan is structured on Kiva as a bullet loan, which means a single payment is required at the end of the loan term. By Colombian law, Kiva's partner Interactuar is required to offer borrowers loans with a variable interest rate that fluctuates with the market rate. Because fixed monthly payments are applied first to interest and then to principal, Interactuar is unable to predict upfront what portion of each repayment would go towards the loan principal. This creates a challenge with Kiva's system, which doesn't allow for unpredictable principal payments, and can result in some Interactuar clients appearing falsely delinquent. To remedy this, the loan has an end-of-term repayment plan on Kiva, but the borrower will continue scheduled monthly repayments to Interactuar, who will then pass along the principal amount to Kiva lenders. This means that you may see repayments made on this loan throughout the repayment term, as opposed to receiving repayment in full at the end of the loan term.
