Nazlije owns and operates a chicken farm to earn her living. She started her business two years ago with 50 chickens, and she has gradually increased this number since then. She sells eggs and chickens in her community and in the neighboring areas.

Nazlije's business is the only source of income for her family and she works hard to improve the standard of living for herself and her child. She and her child live in Kosovo in a Roma community.

She is requesting a loan in order to buy chickens. Her business is starting to grow and she has employed a salesperson who helps her with the distribution of the eggs and chickens from her farm throughout the community and the surrounding area.

Nazlije's goal is to have a poultry farm with increasing numbers of chickens and to provide a decent life for her family.

More information about this loan

This loan will support the economic aspirations of minority people in Kosovo. Roma people and ethnic Serbians have historically faced a tremendous amount of hardship in Kosovo, and are still socioeconomically and politically vulnerable. During the 1998-1999 war, the fighting displaced 250,000 people. Among those displaced were an estimated 80-90% of the region’s Roma population. Today, Roma and ethnic Serbians living in Kosovo still face discrimination and are excluded from many aspects of society, including fair political representation and high rates of unemployment. By supporting this loan you are helping provide opportunity to marginalized populations.
