The “Angoritas de Ingenio” (The Clever Little Goats) will start the first cycle in Pro Mujer as part of the Los Andes Focal Center. It has six members led by a governing board headed by Rosa who is the President. The communal bank members carry out a variety of commercial activities among which we have clothes sales, chocolates sales, blanket weaving, oil sales and shoe sales.

Rosa indicates that she’s been in Pro Mujer for a year and a half having joined thanks to an invitation from one of the institution’s advisors. She currently has a blanket weaving business. She relates that she started weaving blankets years ago having learned to weave from a group of women who went into this business.

The loan she’ll take out now is to increase her merchandise. She will buy wool from suppliers in the city of El Alto that she’ll use to make blankets that she’ll subsequently sell from place to place (she has no permanent stand) in various street markets in the city of El Alto. This way of working makes it possible for her to support her family the best she can since she’s married and has five children. When asked what she likes about Pro Mujer, she answers that she likes the health services.

This is a Group Loan

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.

Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
