Carlos Mario
Carlos is married and has three children. For an income to pay for his family’s expenses he has a hut where he sells sweets and ice cream, and thanks to this his family can enjoy a good quality of life. Carlos started to work when he was very young and because of all the experience that he has acquired, he has been able to better know his customers, how to sell, and thus to have a good business. Since he came from a poor family, it’s been difficult for him to get ahead on his own since he had to help support his family, but now that he is married and has his own children, his financial situation has improved a little. This has allowed him to have a better quality of life. Thanks to his great effort, his sales have been increasing and that is why he is asking for a loan to buy sweets, snacks, ice cream and other products that have been selling out.

Important Information

This loan is structured on Kiva as a bullet loan, which means a single payment is required at the end of the loan term. By Colombian law, Kiva's partner Interactuar is required to offer borrowers loans with a variable interest rate that fluctuates with the market rate. Because fixed monthly payments are applied first to interest and then to principal, Interactuar is unable to predict upfront what portion of each repayment would go towards the loan principal. This creates a challenge with Kiva's system, which doesn't allow for unpredictable principal payments, and can result in some Interactuar clients appearing falsely delinquent. To remedy this, the loan has an end-of-term repayment plan on Kiva, but the borrower will continue scheduled monthly repayments to Interactuar, who will then pass along the principal amount to Kiva lenders. This means that you may see repayments made on this loan throughout the repayment term, as opposed to receiving repayment in full at the end of the loan term.
