The members of the communal bank carry out a variety of business activities like: cheese making, potato and dehydrated potato sales, animal husbandry, pig raising and sheep raising.

Veneranda indicates that this is the first time she’s been in Pro Mujer having joined thanks to a promotional event in her area. She currently has a cheese-making business and also raises cattle and works in agriculture. She relates that she got a parcel of land twenty years ago and has worked it with her children ever since.

The loan she’ll take out now is for her livestock’s feed and for the crops. She will buy forage and seeds from suppliers and will sell her production in local street markets. This way of working allows her to generate income to support her family as much as possible since she’s separated and has four children.

When asked what she likes about Pro Mujer, she answers that she likes that the loans are easy.

This is a Group Loan

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.

Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
