Aysama is a 27-year-old married woman. She is an Internally Displaced Person (IDP) and lives with her family in an IDP Settlement. She is farmer and raising seasonal fruits and vegetables. She has 5 years of experience in this field, which makes her an experienced and skilled person in this field.
Aysama usually sells her crop in the central bazaar. People use fresh vegetables everyday and consider them healthy; many national dishes are made of vegetable, like pilau and dolma. Fresh fruits are served on every table in Azerbaijan families and also make fresh punch. Her monthly income is 60 AZN. Raising crops takes a lot of strength and working in the open air, which is very hard for a woman and that is why her spouse helps her.
She needs additional capital to invest in seeds and fertilizers. This will allow her to improve the quality of products she raises and increase her monthly turnover. For this purpose she applied for 500 AZN.
Aqroinvest Credit Union was founded by a group of 32 Imishli farmers in 2001, and has grown to become one of the largest credit unions in Azerbaijan. It boasts a portfolio of nearly $5 million and is wholly owned by its more than 3,500 borrowers, as of December 2011.
