Beninah is a farmer and a mother of four children aged between 28 and 21 years with the last-born still in school. She has been in farming for ten years and runs her farm with the help of two farmhands. Her farm produces maize, milk, and potatoes for the local market.
Beninah has made a loan request of 41,600 KES from Kiva Field Partner Juhudi Kilimo to buy and insure a dairy cow. She says this will boost her farming income and improve her family's living standards. She hopes to increase her farming acreage in the next five years.
Beninah, however, notes that rampant fluctuation of local prices, coupled with low rains, are still a major challenge to farmers.
