Cyprian is a resident of Nkubu in central Kenya where he lives with his family of three children, whose ages are between 15 and 4 years and all of whom are in school. Cyprian is forty years old and has been active in farming for fourteen years, mainly producing milk and coffee, which he sells at the local market.
Cyprian has requested a loan of 35,000 KES from Juhudi Kilimo to construct feed storage. He believes that this will help him handle the storage of the feed for his dairy cows, which in turn will improve the milk production and boost his farming income. Increasing his farming income will help in educating his children.
Cyprian is very grateful to Juhudi Kilimo for providing loans to farmers but laments the poor market for his produce.
To facilitate a partnership between Kiva and Juhudi Kilimo, K-Rep Group (Juhudi Kilimo’s 100% owner) has guaranteed Kiva funds in the event of institutional default. Lenders should be aware that the risk of borrower default remains borne by the lender.
About Juhudi Kilimo:
Juhudi Kilimo is a for-profit social enterprise working with small-holder farmers in Kenya to finance purchases of dairy cows, chickens, agricultural equipment, and other assets that create immediate cash flow. Many of the assets are insured to prevent devastating business losses, and targeted technical assistance is provided to farmers, from agricultural training to basic book keeping and local market research.
