Aged 38 with five school-going children, Mariam is a married woman living in Likoni, Mombasa, Kenya. She is a kiosk operator who has been with this business for almost five months.
Mariam is requesting a loan from Yehu through Kiva, this being her first loan. She is requesting Ksh 20,000 to add to her stock of maize and wheat flour, rice and beans. She hopes to earn more income and improve her standard of living.
Her dream is to open a wholesale shop in future, though she faces a challenge of high cost of transport based on the fact that her business is so young with just a little capital. She owns a house that has piped water but no electricity.
About Yehu Microfinance Trust
This loan is administered by Yehu Microfinance Trust, which was founded in 1998 as a project of CHOICE Humanitarian Kenya. In July 2007, Yehu became a separate entity from CHOICE and was registered as a trust. Since then, Yehu has expanded to cover over half of Kenya’s 13 coastal districts.
