Marcelina is 63 years old, and is married to Gilberto, who is a coffee grower. It was he who taught her everything necessary so that she could also do this type of work. She has three children who are already married, but they also help her and her husband in their fields during the harvest season, since there are many things that need to be done. They have 6,000 coffee plants and hope to have 7,000 for the next harvest. The new plants that they plant will bear fruit after three years. In order to achieve their goals they will need a loan, since apart from investing in new plants, they will also have to buy fertilizer so that they can grow strong and healthy plants that will produce high quality coffee beans.
They deliver their coffee to “Unión Regional de Huatusco”, which is in charge of processing and exporting the beans. With this loan they will be able to increase their production and their income, since in the area where they live, growing coffee is the only way to make a living.
