Luz Marina
Luz Marina is the single mother of two children who she has always wanted to provide with a better quality of life. This is why she works hard every day in her dressmaking workshop, with the aim of improving her household income and making progress in life. When her children's father abandoned her, Luz Marina started working hard in her dressmaking activities. She was already familiar with this work thanks to a family member who worked in the same business and who she used to help out occasionally. Thanks to the experience she already had, Luz Marina was able to start up her own workshop and provide dressmaking services to third parties. Thanks to the good quality of her products, she currently has very good orders from her customers. Owing to the fact that she doesn't have a lot of capital, she faces certain difficulties when people place large orders with her. However, she now has the opportunity to take out a loan and buy the supplies and raw materials she needs to fill her orders. She is also able to have her three sewing machines serviced. This will enable her to overcome the problems she faces as a result of her lack of capital and she will be able to make progress in her business. Her biggest dream is to create jobs in her dressmaking workshop and to teach the business to other people so that they can provide for their families.

Important Information

This loan is structured on Kiva as a bullet loan, which means a single payment is required at the end of the loan term. By Colombian law, Kiva's partner Interactuar is required to offer borrowers loans with a variable interest rate that fluctuates with the market rate. Because fixed monthly payments are applied first to interest and then to principal, Interactuar is unable to predict upfront what portion of each repayment would go towards the loan principal. This creates a challenge with Kiva's system, which doesn't allow for unpredictable principal payments, and can result in some Interactuar clients appearing falsely delinquent. To remedy this, the loan has an end-of-term repayment plan on Kiva, but the borrower will continue scheduled monthly repayments to Interactuar, who will then pass along the principal amount to Kiva lenders. This means that you may see repayments made on this loan throughout the repayment term, as opposed to receiving repayment in full at the end of the loan term.
