Doris Sonia's story

Doris, 37, lives in the city of Mala which is known for its warm climate and agricultural acitivty, especially growing of crops such as corn, cotton and others. It also has beautiful beaches where one can appreciate nature and disconnect from city life. It is also known for its tasty gastronomy and delicious pork cracklings. Doris is a courageous woman who has raised four children, ages 6, 17, 19 and 23. She has worked hard every day to give them a decent life, and the eldest children help her a lot in her work. In her free time she enjoys cooking, especially making desserts and her favorite dish, which is "Arroz con pato" (duck and rice). With much regret, Doris tells us that because her parents had few resources she was unable to get a secondary education, but she would have liked to study baking.

With a lot of affection and effort, Doris works in her business selling groceries, domestic gas, clothing, flowers, etc. She works around 12 hours a day and gets up very early in the morning to sell products to homemakers who have to make lunches for their children to go to school, and breakfast food. She believes business is successful because she is kind to her customers and enjoys her work, which also contributes toward her household expenses.

Doris is very grateful to Kiva lenders, thanks to whom she can buy groceries such as noodles, canned goods, tuna, sweets, sodas, packaged juice, etc., as well as children's and women's clothing, which means she will have more variety to offer customers. This will allow her to improve her income and continue expanding daily, so she can work toward her goal of "Giving her children a profession and expanding her business".
