She did not go to school for social reasons, and began working alongside her mother who sold seasoning. After several years learning with her mother, she started working alone, selling clothing. She has worked in this business for 12 years.

To increase her working capital, in light of her dual concern to meet customer demand and strengthen her business, Fatoumata has sought assistance from Soro Yiriwaso. She has collaborated with the institution for 24 months and, after two individual loans which were correctly repaid, she has asked for a third. She plans to use this loan to buy 10 pieces of high-grade traditional wrap-around cloth, and four pieces of less detailed damask. She gets her supplies in the area where she works in Ségou.

Fatoumata sells on a cash and retail basis to a customer base mainly comprising women. With this loan she hopes to make a monthly profit of 100,000 francs CFA, which will help her to meet the household expenses and pay her savings group.
