Heng's Group
In this Group: Heng, Seang
Heng is a mother of six children. She is 42 years old and lives in one of the remote area in Battambang Province. Heng has to support the entire household, especially all of her dependent children who are still in school. She and her husband have been working on their two hectares of farmland to grow rice and on their six hectares to grow corn. They have been in this businesses 13 years already.

As a farmer, Heng's main challenge is the inadequacy of financial support for her crops, which make her unable to have decent food and proper living conditions as others. She earns about two US dollars per day.

Heng joined VisionFund in 2002 for her first loan cycle. Since then, she had taken additional loans and each loan was repaid back successfully. In total, she received loans from VisionFund for eight cycles already and it has helped her to timely plant her crops, which has enabled her to receive more crop yield and improve her living condition.

Heng has now formed a group with another member and they are requesting a loan of KHR 1,400,000 each. As the group leader, Heng will use her portion of of the loan to buy seeds, fertilizer, and hire labor to plow her rice farm and crop plantation. She hopes to earn more money and expand her current businesses.

About VisionFund Cambodia

VisionFund Cambodia is a Christian organization and microfinance institution that provides small loans and other financial services to improve the lives of children, empower poor women and their families, and grow successful businesses. The organization works primarily in rural parts of Cambodia and has distinguished itself by targeting the very poor who require smaller loan sizes, regardless of religious beliefs, gender or ethnic background.

Kiva lenders’ funds will help the organization to expand into the northeastern provinces of the country, which have historically been underserved and difficult to reach with financial services.

This is a Group Loan

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.

Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
