Maxwell is the thirty-eight year old married father of three children. His wife also sells auto parts and is in the same trust group. Maxwell has been selling auto parts of different kinds for over eleven years. He will use the loan proceeds to purchase more clutch disks and pressure plates from Canada, Korea and the UK. In Ghana there are no auto parts stores, but there is a high demand for parts as the taxi networks are the main transportation option. His stand operates in an area of Accra called Abossey-Okai that is a conglomeration of hundreds of entrepreneurs who each sell specific auto parts.
Maxwell is a member of the lending group Respect. The lending group works as a type of social collateral where each member of the group applies pressure on other members to ensure repayment.
