Elosy is a farmer in Nkubu area of Central and has been in farming for ten years in her rural home area. Her farm produces mainly cereals like sorghum which are sold within the local market. She operates a retail shop business to supplement her farming income. She is married with three children aged between 13 and 2 years.
Elosy has requested a loan of 30,000 KES from Juhudi Kilimo to help her buy a water pump to use in supplying water to her farm. She hopes to improve her farming income and educate her children. She plans to buy more land to expand her farming business.
Elosy says lack of farm inputs and harsh climatic conditions are the major challenges.
To facilitate a partnership between Kiva and Juhudi Kilimo, K-Rep Group (Juhudi Kilimo’s 100% owner) has guaranteed Kiva funds in the event of institutional default. Lenders should be aware that the risk of borrower default remains borne by the lender.
