“Amanecer de San Bartolo” (San Bartolo Dawn) Duo

This duo is composed of Hortensia who is 54-years old and sells merchandise like cosmetics, disinfectants, clothes and shoes via catalogue in San Bartolomé as a street vendor. Doña Tencha as she’s referred to by her customers says that since she’s already well-known in her neighborhood when customers need products they visit her at home so she always orders extra products so that when her customers are looking for something she’ll have it available and to catch her customers’ eyes with catalogues on hand so that they can look at them while she sells or they visit or she goes out collecting payments. She tells us that what she usually sells the most is disinfectants which are what housewives used the most. She says that thanks to God her business has grown due to her character and kindness.

She’s asking for a second loan to stock up better with the intention of keeping her business active since her constant struggle is to move her son who started high school this year forward; that’s what she’s always wanted, that her son studies.

This is a Group Loan

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.

Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
