Merline Francise
Merline is a young, 34-year-old married mother of four children, three of whom still go to school. She is also responsible for her younger brother, who lives with her. She works selling fresh seasonal foodstuffs (vegetables, peppers and fruit) in the market, and has done so for 11 years.

Merline buys small quantities often which she sells on a retail basis, but this does not always bring in revenue. She would like to buy large quantities in the villages to resell to retail storekeepers. However, her capital has not allowed her to do this to date, as it is not consistent enough to cover her trips. If she can do this her profits will increase. This will allow her to save part of her money to help her husband with the children’s upcoming back-to-school expenses, to buy supplies and to meet their day-to-day needs. Merline plans to reinvest the rest in expanding her business.
