Hiba is a 42-year-old married Lebanese woman. She lives with her husband and two young children who are still attending school. She has worked as a private teacher since 1989. She likes her occupation because she feels that she is helping learners to get the needed education. She has arranged a special room in her house where she receives her students and has equipped it with required materials and supplies. Alongside this, she has also worked as a teacher in a local school since 1998, to supplement her income. Her husband has worked as a journalist since 1993, and they cooperate to gather enough money to be able to pay their heavy life expenses. Today, Hiba is applying for a loan from Kiva partner Ameen s.a.l to purchase a laptop and an iPad. She notes that these purchases will facilitate her work preparation and will help her make researches and studies which will improve her teaching skills. She is very positive about her future and wishes to receive more students with the coming school season.
Due to political and social challenges in Lebanon, personally identifiable attributes entrepreneurs may have been altered to protect their privacy (i.e., blurring portions of the borrower's picture, not indicating a name and location, etc.). Vitas appreciates Kiva lenders' understanding of these challenges and encourages them to continue their support for Lebanon's borrowers.
