Marites is 39 years old and lives in Sto. Niño, Tukuran Zamboanga Del Sur with her two children. She supports her family by running a "sari-sari" (or general) store where she sells products such as shampoo, soap and toothpaste. She has been in this business for six years and earns 10,000 PHP from her work. In 2009, Marites joined GDMPC as a way to improve her business, and is requesting a loan for 15,000 PHP to buy new items to sell to her customers. She plans to use the additional revenue generated by her business to improve her family's living conditions.
Gata Daku Multi-Purpose Cooperative (GDMPC) was founded in 1992 by 32 farmer-members to empower people by providing livelihood opportunities and other support services. Today, it has over 15,000 members located in upland, lowland and coastal regions of the Philippines, and offers credit, savings, education, and various social services.
