The Santi Pala group is located in Melaya village, Jembrana, West Bali. Most of the inhabitants work as farmers. The dry season they are facing today requires them to find different types of plants suitable for the dry season to increase their income. The group chooses to plant beans and other types of crops.

They need additional funds to purchase seeds and fertilizer. 10 of the men, who have similar businesses, joined together in a group and sent their proposal to MUK to have a loan. In addition to getting venture capital loans, they also received training from MUK.

I Wayan is the head of the Santi Pala group. He used the loan to purchase seeds and fertilizer. With this loan he hopes he can cultivate the land properly in order to produce the maximum yield and that the final result will improve the family's economy. One member couldn't attend the meeting because of sickness.

This is a Group Loan

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.

Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
