So
So, age 44, is a business-minded woman who is eager to be a successful entrepreneur and attain a standard of living in her daily life. She is in three businesses: rice husbandry, hog raising and a bamboo basket making business. For the rice, she and her husband usually cultivate it once a year, primarily growing in the rainy season. The other two businesses have been operating from day to day. It’s such busy work for her, however the work is very agreeable to her. From her hard work, she is able to make at least 5 USD per day.

Recently So has hired a few construction workers to renovate her house, but she doesn’t have enough capital to finish this construction. Consequently, she would like to take out a loan from HKL and Kiva to purchase building materials used in construction. She feels very happy and grateful for the constant support from our lenders. This will be the fourth loan to help her family. She has been an honest client with HKL for a long time.

About HKL

Hattha Kaksekar Limited is one of the largest and most successful microfinance institutions (MFIs) in Cambodia. The organization provides microfinance services to the poor, particularly women, in urban and rural areas. Kiva lenders’ funds will be used to expand the outreach of HKL’s financial services to a greater number of clients in rural areas of Cambodia.

About Housing Loans

Many poor families cannot afford housing that meets their needs. When you make a housing loan on Kiva, you give people access to flexible capital to obtain or improve their homes. Better housing means better health, sanitation, and even educational outcomes for children. A house can also be much more for entrepreneurs who run businesses out of their homes. In this way, housing and small business loans on Kiva share a common purpose: to alleviate poverty and enable families to enjoy more stable lives.
