This group, called “Santa Librada,” is currently in its 3rd loan cycle with the “Comite de Mujeres” [Women's Committee] program. They are recognized in their community for the manner in which they work, always in a united fashion, with one helping the other, so that, thanks to their work, they are able to provide their families with the necessities.

A story worth relating is Rossana's; she is single, 26 years old, and has, since she was very young, been dedicated to selling things in the streets. In this way, she has been able to advance her mother. They live alone and Rossana sustains their household.

Rossana is requesting a loan to buy sheets, blankets, eiderdowns, and other products, to be able to offer a greater variety to her customers and, in this way, to produce some earnings.

This is a Group Loan

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.

Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
