A loan of $575 helped to buy bags of organic fertilizer.

Rita's story

Rita is 50 years old, she is married to Julio, who is 51. They have nine children, but only live with three of them: Gerson, 14, Ursula, 12, and Jordan, aged 10. They all live in their own home which was built little by little over several years. It is located in the Sanchirio coffee region.

Rita is a courageous and determined woman who works in agriculture. Every morning, along with her husband, they head for the coffee, banana and yuca plantations to tend them. What she likes the most is seeing her crops grow to become healthy and strong, as it reflects all her hard work. They sell to coffee cooperatives, and to banana and yuca vendors in the city. To do so, she must transport her produce for one hour. Her main customers are from the same area, as with 20 years of experience in this activity, she has obtained good customers who recognize the quality of her products. Rita is now thinking of improving her production, and to do so, she will clean and fertilize more frequently.

This is the second loan which she has taken out from MFP and she is grateful for the opportunity which the communal bank “Progreso del Palomar” has given her. She is confident of getting ahead, as this bank is one of the groups with the most members in the province.

Rita will invest the money into the purchase of several bags of organic fertilizer which she will spread on her coffee crops.
