Patrick has been active in farming for two successive years in his rural home in the Nkubu area of Central Kenya where he lives with his parents. He is aged 23 and currently produces tea, vegetables and fruits for the local market.
Patrick has requested a loan of 60,000 KES from Juhudi Kilimo to help him install an irrigation system in his farm for better farming water pipes and a water tank. He says he wants to save his farming income to enable him build decent house for his family and establish a fish farming business.
He laments the high cost of farm inputs and costly management of animal crops.
To facilitate a partnership between Kiva and Juhudi Kilimo, K-Rep Group (Juhudi Kilimo’s 100% owner) has guaranteed Kiva funds in the event of institutional default. Lenders should be aware that the risk of borrower default remains borne by the lender.
