This communal bank is called "Mujeres Emprendedoras D. Micaela Bastida" (Micaela Bastida's Enterprising Women). The group is composed of 7 members with good ideas for today’s activities. Tereza is a member of the group and hers is a special story of success and progress. Tereza is 54 years old, she is married and she has four children whom she has been able to provide for with the great contribution of the small activity she started more than 25 years ago: she sells spices and dressings. Through this activity she has always succeeded in getting ahead. Thanks to the profits of her shop and to her husband’s help she has succeeded in offering a dignified life to her children and to provide a stable income for her family. The loan she is now requesting will be used to buy dressings. Just like Tereza, every member of the group has a special story, but these all meet in the effort with which they face every challenge coming up in their lives, fighting for the wellbeing of their families as well as for their economic improvements.

This is a Group Loan
In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.
Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
