Living in a rural area located in the Prey Chhor district, Eng is a 58-year-old widower with eight children, four of whom are dependent and who are still in school and selling grocery items.
He earns a living through planting cassava as a primary business and sometimes he works as a motor taxi driver.
Eng is a second-cycle client with Kiva’s partner, VisionFund, and he successfully paid back the past loan, which has helped him keep his children in school and build on some savings. Now he is able to earn around 25,000 KHR per day.
Now requesting another loan, he will use it to buy a motorbike for his business. He hopes this loan will enable him to have a new motorbike and he also hopes to make more income so as to make a better living and keep his children in school.
About VisionFund Cambodia
VisionFund Cambodia is a Christian organization and microfinance institution that provides small loans and other financial services to improve the lives of children, empower poor women and their families, and grow successful businesses. The organization works primarily in rural parts of Cambodia and has distinguished itself by targeting the very poor who require smaller loan sizes, regardless of religious beliefs, gender or ethnic background.
Kiva lenders’ funds will help the organization to expand into the northeastern provinces of the country, which have historically been underserved and difficult to reach with financial services.
