Mrs. Long P. is 46 years old and lives in Kompong Chnang province, where she makes a living raising pigs and planting rice. Her husband, Long Hout, works as a fisherman. Their combined income amounts to only $3.50 per day. Of their nine children, one is married and works as a village blacksmith. Two of the older children stay home to work in the rice paddies while the other six are in school. Mrs. Long wants to use her loan to buy more farmland on which to grow rice. With the additional income generated from another plot, she hopes to be able to adequately feed and support her large family. (Picture: husband and wife)
