Joel is 33 years old, married and has 3 children. He is from Bayabas, Aurora, Zamboanga del Sur, Philippines, where his corn production is located. He was just 25 years old when he started cultivating this land. At the end of the month, Joel gets PHP 8,000, which he equally divides with his family. In 2011, Joel joined GDMPC. He has borrowed PHP 15,000 to purchase fertilizers such as manure. He hopes to plant sooner so as not to waste time. Joel plans to apply appropriate fertilizers and expand his business.
Gata Daku Multi-Purpose Cooperative (GDMPC) was founded in 1992 by 32 farmer-members to empower people by providing livelihood opportunities and other support services. Today, it has over 15,000 members located in upland, lowland and coastal regions of the Philippines, and offers credit, savings, education, and various social services.
