Elizabeth is a mother of five adult children and has been in farming for the last eighteen years. Her farm currently produces milk and tea for the local market.
Elizabeth has requested a loan of 50,000 KES from Kiva partner Juhudi Kilimo to buy a dairy cow. She says this will boost her farming business and enable her to enjoy the economies of scale in addition to boosting her financial security and helping her meet her family's basic needs. She adds that the farming business has better prospects in the future.
She notes, however, that weather conditions remain a challenge that must be managed well to avoid huge losses. She appreciates Juhudi Kilimo’s fast loan processing.
To facilitate a partnership between Kiva and Juhudi Kilimo, K-Rep Group (Juhudi Kilimo’s 100% owner) has guaranteed Kiva funds in the event of institutional default. Lenders should be aware that the risk of borrower default remains borne by the lender.
