The Amancaya group is comprised of eighteen members, all young and enterprising, who are in their 15th cycle of working in an organized and timely manner for their loans.

The group members have a deep-rooted belief system, and this conviction leads them to seek a blessing of their activities. For this, they practice the traditional ritual called “Ch’alla” whereby offerings are made to Pachamama, goddess of the earth, to allow them to succeed in their enterprise.

Their primary activities include making clothing such as sweaters, blankets, skirts and other casual clothes. In some instances, they can position themselves at the 16th of July Market, one of the main markets in the city of El Alto.

They require funds to inject more capital into their business so they can buy both raw materials and finished product to sell to the affluent customers who frequent the city’s markets.

Additional Information

This is a Group Loan

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.

Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
