Beatrice is a mother of eight children between 15 and 5 years old and a farmer. She has been carrying out mixed farming in her rural home in Kitale, Western Kenya, for six years and produces maize and beans.
Beatrice has taken a loan of 62,400 KES from Juhudi Kilimo to buy and insure a dairy cow and venture into dairy farming. Beatrice says the major part of her farming income will go into educating her children and expand her farming business in all aspects. She has high hopes she will succeed in her farming.
She says that poor infrastructure and price fluctuations -- especially for milk -- remain her major challenges.
To facilitate a partnership between Kiva and Juhudi Kilimo, K-Rep Group (Juhudi Kilimo’s 100% owner) has guaranteed Kiva funds in the event of institutional default. Lenders should be aware that the risk of borrower default remains borne by the lender.
About Juhudi Kilimo:
Juhudi Kilimo is a for-profit social enterprise working with small-holder farmers in Kenya to finance purchases of dairy cows, chickens, agricultural equipment, and other assets that create immediate cash flow.
