Peres has requested a loan of 80,000 KES from Juhudi Kilimo, a Kiva partner to expand her poultry farming business. She says she will buy more birds at 40,000 KES and build a better poultry housing unit too at 40,000 KES for the increased number of her flock. She is optimistic she will be able to pay for the education the education of her children.
She says poultry diseases remains the major challenge in farming but is glad with Juhudi Kilimo loan support to smallholder farmers.
To facilitate a partnership between Kiva and Juhudi Kilimo, K-Rep Group (Juhudi Kilimo’s 100% owner) has guaranteed Kiva funds in the event of institutional default. Lenders should be aware that the risk of borrower default remains borne by the lender.
