Josiah is a father of one adult son, age 26 years. Josiah has been in active farming for 20 years in his rural home in Nkubu, Central Kenya. His farm produce, which includes coffee, maize, beans and milk, is sold to the local markets. He runs a butchery business besides farming.
Josiah has made a loan request of 50,000 KES from Juhudi Kilimo to build a zero-grazing unit for his dairy animals. He says the zero-grazing unit will help him manage his feeds, especially for the dry seasons when feeds become scarce and expensive. He plans to use his farming income to purchase more parcels of land for his farming business to earn better income.
Josiah says lack of sufficient rains and the effects of pests are the major challenges. He is glad for the services of Juhudi Kilimo, which he says are helping in eradicating poverty.
To facilitate a partnership between Kiva and Juhudi Kilimo, K-Rep Group (Juhudi Kilimo’s 100% owner) has guaranteed Kiva funds in the event of institutional default. Lenders should be aware that the risk of borrower default remains borne by the lender.
