Mrs. Njem S., age 58, is a mother of six children and works as farmer growing a variety of vegetables on a plot of farmland. On average, she earns $2 a day. Her husband is also a farmer; he grows rice year-round, making around $3 per day.

Two of the six children are employed as garment workers with a salary $70 a month. The other four children are students and sometimes help their mother planting vegetables.

To make the plants grow faster, she would like to borrow from Kiva to purchase fertilizers and a water pump to water the crops. With the remaining funds, she will purchase watermelon seeds to grow for the next season. (Husband is pictured because Mrs. Njem S. is not available)
