The woman interviewed is Elisabeth who is married to Julio with whom she had 5 children, all now married and living in different locations.

Elisabeth is soliciting her loan to buy fruit and vegetables, which she has been selling for 2 years and 5 months. She says the business is going well and she is supporting her family with the earnings. Elisabeth began the business to help her husband with household income. He takes charge of going to purchase the vegetables and, also, going out to sell them in communities near their town. What she desires is that with this small activity and the loan, she can continue working and getting ahead as long as God gives her life.

The other 2 members of the group are: Lorma, who will invest in purchasing Fuller brand cosmetics to sell, and Carolina, who will invest her loan in purchasing ingredients for making tamales.

This is a Group Loan

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.

Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
