For over five years in Camanga, Tukuran, Gemma, a 46-year-old married mother of three children has made a living through the operation of a retail business, selling a variety of food and homemade products. She earns 15,000 PHP a month for these activities.
In 2011, Gemma joined GDMPC to gain access to financial services to help improve her business and living situation. She is now requesting a loan of 30,000 PHP to purchase new items to expand her product offering. She plans to use the additional revenue generated from the loan as a reserve for future emergencies.
Gata Daku Multi-Purpose Cooperative (GDMPC) was founded in 1992 by 32 farmer-members to empower people by providing livelihood opportunities and other support services. Today, it has over 15,000 members located in upland, lowland and coastal regions of the Philippines, and offers credit, savings, education, and various social services.
