Rubi Group's story

Doña Vicenta is one of the 14 members of the "Rubí" group, located in Acatlán. Its inhabitants work in commerce, since being the municipality, it is visited by many people from nearby communities. As well, sugar cane is planted and cultivated.

The members of this group are:

Beatriz: sale of groceries,
Virginia: sale of soft drinks,
Vicenta: sale of shoes and handbags,
Francisca: sale of clothing,
Ysabel: carpentry workshop,
María del Carmen: sale of cosmetics,
Minerva sale of cosmetics,
José Manuel sale of cosmetics,
Sonia: sale of clothing,
Yolanda:sale of lingerie,
Emiliano: pastry sales,
Elizabeth: sale of lingerie,
Dulce María: sale of food and
Elvira: sale of cosmetics.

Doña Vicenta is 44. She only went as far as high school, and is married to Pedro, who works as a mechanic. She has four children, but the eldest has already married, and now only three of her children are dependent on her. Vicenta tells us that she has always liked to work, and from the time she got married, she has sold various kinds of merchandise in order not to leave the entire burden to her husband and to help him with the household expenses.

Currently, she sells shoes and handbags, an activity she has been doing for nine years. Vicenta goes house-to-house in various communities. What she likes best about her business is that she does her selling in her free time and doesn't neglect her family. Vicenta will invest her loan in the purchase of a variety of handbags and shoes, in order to continue carrying out her sales.

She hopes that with this investment her business will continue to grow, as she wants her children to continue their education and to give them a better quality of life.
