Atef is a 33-year-old married man and father of one child. Previously, he worked as a driver in a company. In 2006, he opened up his own narguile (hookah) business, offering a free delivery service. This model is quite popular in the country and especially in Atef’s region. With his excellent social relations, good geographical location and quality tobacco flavors, Atef has developed a good reputation in his neighborhood.

Working from his house, Atef needs to renovate the room he uses for narguile preparations; over the years, it got very tainted due to charcoal burning. He applied for a loan from Kiva partner Al Majmoua. He will also invest part of the loan in doing necessary maintenance in his house, in addition to paying extra school fees. Additionally, he will use the rest of the money for his delivery car’s engine maintenance.
