Yong is 50 years old and a married woman who has been residing in Baray district. She was born and grew up in the family farm. She has been operating a rice faming business for almost 12 years. She cultivates rice crops twice a year along with her husband. Besides farming, Yong operates a fishing business for additional income. From these activities, she is able to make an income in the neighborhood of USD 9.20 per day to cover her daily expenses.
To further expand her business, she is seeking a loan of USD 1,000 to purchase a plot of land for farming purposes. She hopes that she can obtain a good outcome from her investment and thereby increase her household income.
Hattha Kaksekar Limited is one of the largest and most successful microfinance institutions (MFIs) in Cambodia. The organization provides microfinance services to the poor, particularly women, in urban and rural areas. Kiva lenders’ funds will be used to expand the outreach of HKL’s financial services to a greater number of clients in rural areas of Cambodia.
