Gonzalo De Jesus
Gonzalo is married with three children whom he has always wanted to give a good education. For this reason, around 17 years ago he decided to start his own business producing icypoles and in this way seek opportunities to improve his family's financial situation.

His business has been widely recognised for the good quality of its products and this has allowed him to make large sales, to the point that now he cannot meet the orders of all his customers because his production capacity is lower that that of the orders. His biggest difficulty is the lack of capital for his business, since his customers are constantly late making payments and this also makes it difficult for Gonzalo to buy the supplies for the preparation of his products.

Seeking to increase his production capacity, Gonzalo is asking for a loan to buy a sealing machine so that that he can complete his work more efficiently and meet all of his customers’ orders. In this way his business can continue moving forward and his income will improve considerably. Further, he will be able to slowly improve the income security of his home and provide his family a good quality of life and better economic stability which will allow them to make progress.

Important Information

This loan is structured on Kiva as a bullet loan, which means a single payment is required at the end of the loan term. By Colombian law, Kiva's partner Interactuar is required to offer borrowers loans with a variable interest rate that fluctuates with the market rate. Because fixed monthly payments are applied first to interest and then to principal, Interactuar is unable to predict upfront what portion of each repayment would go towards the loan principal. This creates a challenge with Kiva's system, which doesn't allow for unpredictable principal payments, and can result in some Interactuar clients appearing falsely delinquent. To remedy this, the loan has an end-of-term repayment plan on Kiva, but the borrower will continue scheduled monthly repayments to Interactuar, who will then pass along the principal amount to Kiva lenders. This means that you may see repayments made on this loan throughout the repayment term, as opposed to receiving repayment in full at the end of the loan term.
