The Committee “Responsible Women” was established by several neighbours from the Villa Bonita suburb of the town of Villa Elisa. Its members are hardworking and enterprising women for despite being mothers, wives and in some cases having a formal job, develop their microbusinesses with the aim of obtaining extra income to help their husbands with the household expenses.

Among the activities they are developing we can name: clothes-sales, fruits and vegetables, kiosks, tailoring, some are recyclers, others sell “chipa” (a traditional Paraguayan food made from a base of starch, milk, cheese and egg), others sell fast food and others sweets and cakes.

In the photograph there are 17 members of the committee. The committee's relationship are harmonious, they are responsible in their payments, among other things in order to improve savings.

They want to continue developing the committee programme which Fundación Paraguaya has devised as this has been a great help for them, both economically and personally, as the training courses which they organize have permitted them to improve their knowledge of sales, marketing, saving, budget-making etc. To begin a new cycle the women need a new credit to invest in their businesses, purchasing merchandise for their sales, ingredients to prepare their foods and some utensils or tools which they need to carry-out these labours.

The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.
