Leah is a mother of twelve children who are all adults, save for the last born who is seventeen and still in school. She has been farming in her rural area for thirty years and currently produces and sells milk, maize, beans, vegetables, and fruits, which help her in meeting her family's needs.
Leah has made a loan request of 60,000 KES from Juhudi Kilimo to buy poultry for a new venture into poultry farming. She is optimistic on the returns from her poultry business. It will help her improve her dairy farming as well and earn more income to educate her last-born child.
Leah says Juhudi Kilimo loans have really empowered her over the years by making her a much better farmer. She, however, notes the challenges of poultry diseases as being very costly.
To facilitate a partnership between Kiva and Juhudi Kilimo, K-Rep Group (Juhudi Kilimo’s 100% owner) has guaranteed Kiva funds in the event of institutional default. Lenders should be aware that the risk of borrower default remains borne by the lender.
