Germana is a mother of five children aged between twenty and five years. She lives with her family in their rural home in Kitale, where she carries out her farming. She sells her maize, beans, eggs, and milk to the local market. She earns some additional income from teaching at the local school.
Germana has requested a loan of 60,000 KES from Juhudi Kilimo, which she will use to buy more poultry to expand her farming business. She aspires to have a flock of more than three hundred birds and continues to grow the number as time passes by.
Germana runs her farm with the help of one farmhand and says common poultry diseases are the major challenges in farming.
To facilitate a partnership between Kiva and Juhudi Kilimo, K-Rep Group (Juhudi Kilimo’s 100% owner) has guaranteed Kiva funds in the event of institutional default. Lenders should be aware that the risk of borrower default remains borne by the lender.
